Jeremy Sisto

When I first saw this movie, I thought that whoever played Roberto was really believable and convincing. Then, for years, I completely forgot about it.

Then came 'Six Feet Under'. For some odd reason, the slightly insane brother of Brenda seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite tell why. Convincing and believable, sure, but where had I seen this guy before?

Tonight they showed 'Grand Canyon' again on TV. Haven't seen it for a couple of years, but it's one of my favourite movies. Suddenly I jumped out of my seat, shouting "that's HIM! that's that guy from that... dead-people-show!", probably scaring nearby people. I'm not eloquent when startled.

Now, aware that it's Jeremy Sisto, I watched Roberto very closely. And yes, his acting is top notch, even for the mere kid he must have been at the time. It's like his uncomfortable teens are really showing. Or maybe it's just very clever writing and directing.

wow, I had no idea that was him. Pretty cool

I agree, it's incredible how natural his acting was, even at that age.

one of my favorite scenes of the movie is when his dad is teaching him how to drive. It was so real.

reply

I thought so, too. I figure it's quite possible that Jeremy was really just learning to drive at the same time, afterall, he was only 16. The nervous lip-biting, the tight grip on the steering wheel and squinting to see the lights, the mischievous grin and the high-top running shoes! Very authentic looking scene all around.

The nervousness may have been authentic, too, because it even sounds like he might have jumped in early over Kline's dialogue when he says "I messed up" then he repeats it again. Of course, it could have been written that way, but it worked, at any rate.

My favourite line follows by Kevin Kline:

"This is difficult stuff. Making a left turn in L.A. is one of the hardest things you'll ever learn in this life."

He was so cute. If I only knew then what I know about him now I would have been following his career more closely! Thank God for DVD!

Roberto (Sisto) had many good scenes in the movies. For instance, at camp when he was trying to comfort that little kid, the first-year-camper. The ride back home with his mom, when he learns he might get a baby sister, is also excellent.

I like him SO much better in this movie than in Siz Feet Under, where he is just plain creepy.

reply

Yeah, I had to watch this movie a couple of times before I recognized Sisto playing Kline's son. I kept looking at him the first time I saw this going, "Where have I seen that kid before?" until it finally hit me..."it's Elton from CLUELESS!"

I agree. Jeremy Sisto has skills. He was great in this small role with the strong ensemble cast it had. He truly held his own. I think Jeremy Sisto is one of the most underrated actors in around. He is an excellent character actor, he has an awesome film presence and flexible charisma. He is multifaceted. He doesn't rehash the same character in every movie yet he seems to stay familiar. A great example noted is his development in Six Feet Under as Billy. I think he was very accurate playing a self-medicating paranoid schitzophrenic.

He is REMARKABLE in Waitress. Absolutely fantastic. If you haven't already, go see it.

He is going to play a detective in the upcoming season of law and order.I think he will be great.
