The black gang was actually too Good looking to be believable...

Most people who watch this movie may get the living daylights scared out of them while watching the scene were the black gang confronts Kevin Kline, and then later Danny Glover, and while there is certainly an element of terror there,....to me there was something always a bit phony about this scene. And then it hit me....these dudes are just way too good looking to be a believable L.A. street gang. To many people they may just seem like scary black guys, but if you really look at them, they seem like well kept black men that are just dressed on the thuggish side and wearing an attitude. I work in a hospital in the hood and I see real black gangbangers come through the ER frequently....the real ones are ugly as hell and truly terrifying to look at. The guys in this movie look like Hollywood models in comparison, and some of them probably were models that just took a temporary gig playing thugs.

You must be female. I didn't notice their looks. I noticed black thugs with guns and bad intent.

I think the OP might be right. during the close ups with the gang leader, I did notice his teeth were in really nice condition. Yes he was a young guy, but his teeth were white and straight and perfect. Hollywood actor teeth.

Plus several of them had on some fancy clothes and they drove sort of a fancy car with tricked out wheels and such.

Maybe I don't know much about real gangs, but these guys did look like some college drop outs...but I guess with what kind of thieving they do, they can afford or steal some decent stuff....and afford some trips to the dentist as well.

Funny, I was thinking Kevin Kline looked too good to be an immigration lawyer.

Exactly what I was thinking! Also, they weren't particularly good actors to have pulled it off without seeming so obviously miscast. You almost thought we should believe they were gangsters just by their skin color alone.
