The old man in the castle

O.K so does this symbolize Jack in some way?
is there a connection between his own attempt at suicide earlier on and his ultimate redemption in the breaking into the castle building (his own self absorption/fortress) and then helping the old man who he would have ultimately become if he continued on the way he was? (rich, miserable / self absorbed etc...) you see that he was almost turning back into the same guy again as in the beginning of the film once his agent re-entered the picture.... the same attitude that started the whole mess in the first place.

I was thinking more of the red knight, what with the red knight stained glass window when Jack entered. At this point, the red knight who had prevented Parry from getting the grail / from remembering is overcome (and he is saved by a fool with a cup/grail, like in the fisher king story), and sure enough now that the red knight is no longer an antagonist, Parry wakes up, and remembers.
