Gilliams Best Movie??
Is this Terry Gilliams best movie ??
What do you think?
I think it's one of his best, but I personally prefer Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and 12 Monkeys.
"Ahh this is great, s'just like being in a buddy movie."

(Sin City)
I tend to drift back and forth from this to 12 Monkeys to Brazil, and back to Fisher King....
But since I have a cat named Parry and a dog named Jack, I would coonceed this one's my favorite.
Brazil is Gilliam's best movie by far (well except for the Holy Grail). 12 monkeys is a decent movie, but the original French short is much more effective. Fisher King runs back over many of the same themes and imagery of Brazil, and while it adds a few nice story points it didn't grab me the same way as Brazil.

Time Bandits
12 Monkeys
Holy Grail
The Fisher King
The Adventures of Baron Munchausin
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

God. All such wonderful films. Brazil being Gilliams masterpiece.
True....
Brazil is one of the greatest movies ever made...but The Fisher King holds a special place in my heart.
Brazil, 12 monkeys, Fear and Loathing, all great movies. But the Fisher King is a movie that goes straight to my heart,a take on a local issue (a group of vigilantes killing homeless people) and magically becomes an universal story of men finding themselves in the quest of the holy grail. And is in XX century manhattan Incredible cinematography, acting, dialogue and music. What more do you want? Is my top 4 after Godfather 2, Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
sharethis and Brazil are his best...Fear and Loathing is a bit overrated

My favorite gilliam movie is Baron Munchausen but Fisher king is a close second one.
shareI've never ever been able to decide which one I like best of his films. They all touch me in very different ways, and all of them fill up different sides of my moods. But I remember Fisher King to be one of the first Gilliamfilms I saw, and I fell in love with it. Gilliams obscure sense of black humour and fascination for the dark pictures is really amazing, and he's one of the few directors I know (besides of David Lynch) who manages to put his own personality into this genre.
shareLittle too much "Brazil" here, which I think is WAY overrated, mainly because it doesn't look like it held up over the years. And "Fear and Loathing"? Come on. I think Gilliam is at his best with fantasy like "Time Bandits" and "Baron Munchausen". But I think "Fisher King" is right up there with them. "12 Monkeys" was very good too.
shareThis and Brazil are really good but the best in my oppinion would be 12 Monkeys.
The MPAA just a buch of wacko's in buisness suits.

Brazil is the masterpiece!!! Is in the top 10 of my favourite movies...
and Fisher King in the top 20! :-)
The Fisher King is the best!!!
Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langely Soryu are the best anime characters of all time!!!
Even though The Fisher King is one of Gilliam's least imaginative films, I love this one the best...it's one of my all-time favourite movies. My favourites for Terry go like this;
The Fisher King
Time Bandits
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Brazil
12 Monkeys
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
They're all excellent films! (10 out of 10 for me, all of them...)
In my humble opinion, it is his best film.
I don't think it's a perfect film, it could have used some editing, particularly when it veers off course into an action sequence with Jack stealing the grail, a minor imperfection.
Otherwise, a truly superb and beautiful piece of filmmaking, with universal themes, universal yet intricate characters (everyone can identify with at least one main character, I could identify with all four) and storytelling that leaves your heart soaring by the end.
I caught a TV showing recently and I was so pleased at how timeless it remains.
One of my all-time favorites.

Also, Mercedes Ruehl slapping Jeff Bridges is the most satisfying and well deserved slap I have ever seen in any film.
Plus, Jeff Bridges portrayal of Jack, absolutely outstanding, I am not a big fan, but this was the best stuff I have ever seen from him. I mention him because I think he was overlooked given he was in the middle of three other outstanding performances.
From what I can tell, it is a toss-up between Brazil and The Fisher King. Brazil may be more majestic. The Fisher King is all about heart.
12 monkeys brought on mass apeal
still think time bandits is the best true gilliam " way out there" work though
His best movie? Difficult to judge. I mean I enjoyed this one more, but that is because it left me on such a high, with tears of joy. But could 12 monkeys be a better film? It doesn't leave you feeling so happy, but is that what constitutes "Best movie". Too difficult a question me thinks!
shareAlthough I love other Gilliam's movies, yes, for me The Fisher King is his masterpiece. (It's like Weir's 'Fearless'.)
It stands at the top of my private list of the greatest movies of all time.
