I thought it was funny that he was too out of it to realise that, since he wanted 24 buns (he put 3 of the bun packs in the trolley), he could've just bought 2 packs of buns (24) and 3 packs of hot dogs (24) and avoided going to jail, but I guess that was the point..

Just sayin'.

That's always bothered me too

I guess it could have been caused by his rant, though. Maybe he only intended to buy a pack or two, but since he was ranting and losing his mind, he just kept going

Or, maybe someone could've explained to him that hot dog buns aren't always the most reliably stable things to buy, in that in a pack you're bound to get one or two that breaks. Hence the need for extra buns.
