how to make out of this movie?

I have watched around 40 minutes of this but I really don't understand much about this movie so far. It makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Why did he makes so complicated movies and how did he expect to interpret the movie? His movies are so puzzling and he uses lots of metaphors which difficult to penetrate. It seems like only people with some background in the theory of movies could interpret his movies. I watched his '3 colors' movies also which first time I didn't understand. Only after also running the commentary I was able to understand his movie. Now do I need to take some course in movie to understand movies like this? I definitely don't have any grudge against him. And I have plans to watch his other movies like 'dekalog'. But it is really frustrating to watch a movie but don't understand it at all.
