Why would he get a disease if he was dead

Daniel was still in the living world where STDs are a real threat.

STD's are still a threat yet cholesteral and calories aren't remember the diner scene, how is he still in the living world where is that said

He wasn't really worried about getting an STD. He was afraid of getting together with Meryl Streep's character. That's the point - he still showed fear. The STD explanation was just a lame excuse.

The STD excuse came from Diamond not Daniel. Daniel poo-pooed it himself.

As many times as I have watched this movie,I still can not for the life of me understand why Brooks even have Diamond make such a meaningless excuse to begin with. I would much rather of had Diamond go into his speech about how Daniel might of been more thoughtful of Julia's feelings right after his line of "Have sex with someone and move right on!"

Instead it's like he was grasping for any straw he could after Daniel confessed he was afraid. Instead he went for the line "You didn't think! You didn't know" which did draw away from the point we all knew was there. He still had fear.
