Mistake in the Ice Cream Challenge!

I love this movie and it will remain one of my all time favorites. However, there is one scene which I think there is a small mistake.

Just before the "Ice Cream Challenge" Barry and Ira are discussing what flavor of ice cream would be perfect with the meal they were eating at the time.

"What would be the perfect flavor," Barry asks his brother Ira, "with this meal?"

"Cherry Vanilla?" Ira responds.

"No," Barry explains, "If it were Chinese food, right on the money. But this? Toasted Almond."

Ira kisses his brother on the forehead. And then explains to the group that his brother can pick out the extact flavor of ice cream to follow any meal. Then Ira goes on to say to Mitch to challenge his brother.

"Franks and Beans," Mitch laughs.

"Scoop of Chocolate, scoop of vanilla," Barry huffs back, "Don't waste my time."

The problem with this exchange is this. It appears, at least to me, that they were already eating franks and beans at the time. So which is it? Toasted Almond or the scoop of Chocolate and Vanilla?

First off, it would be nice if you could turn off your bold. Just as a courtesy to others.

But in answer to your question, you don't eat franks and beans out on the trail. You just eat chili, and lots of it. I'm surprised they didn't have any fart jokes in the movie, but that was fully covered by Blazing Saddles. Anyway, chili has quite a different flavor from franks and beans, so a different ice cream to complement it would make sense.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Ok I kept the "bold" off. I didn't realize it was offending anyone? Very strange. I found that the bold letters made it easlier for me to read. But whatever......

Actually, you may be right about the chili, except for one small detail. When Ira throws his plate back at the feet of Mitch you can see the food on his plate. It looks like franks and beans to me. Maybe it is chili but it sure looks like franks and beans. Maybe there is some meat or bacon in the beans and that is throwing me off. Probably not a big deal but just something I always notice in the flim. Still a very funny scene in the flim.

But this raises another point. If it is indeed chili they are eating then why would the ice cream for desert for chili be that much different from franks and beans? Toasted Almonds for Chili, but a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla for franks and beans? Does chili rate that much higher on the meal meter? I guess I would have to ask Ira. He is the expert in this field. lol.

Looked like franks and beans to me too.

First off, Yes, Mitch was eating franks and beans, thats why he said it, and thats what it clearly showed.

The only answer that makes sense to your question is that Ira and Berry were somehow eating something different than Mitch.

Maybe Cookie had a couple of different selections, its perfectly reasonable to assume Mitch chose Franks and Beans, while Ira and Barry chose Stew Meat or Chili or whatever else Cookie had.
