I'm wondering. What 'school of philosophy' does Curley represent?

I don't think the two writers, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, personally cooked up the "Pick out ONE THING on which you will focus, and through which you will tune your expectations and plans" mantra.

Did this idea get its start with some philosopher or monk in the Middle Ages, or from the Far East, or some origin like that? I think I'd like to read up on it.

I majored in philosophy fifty years ago, and have continued with it as an avocation ever since. I cannot think of any philosopher who advocated focusing on just one thing as the solution to life’s problems.
