I apologize for sounding naive, but I was always confused in regards to the "racist" black cop. Confused because of the fact he seemed to hate his own race. Was or is this a common thing in the police department - racist against own race?
I don't necessarily think that he hates himself and is taking it out on other black people but rather he sees these other blacks as the ones giving hard working people like him a bad name. In a way it taps into everything negative he has experienced as a black man. Another part of it maybe that he doesn't want to appear lenient to his white partner, it's another way of integrating into the police.

I think as a cop he's learnt to hate what he sees as black low lives, and now he sees all ghetto black people as low lives.
He probably gets so much attitude and disrespect, and shot at so often, and sees so much arrogant stupidity in the ghettoes, that its turned him into a bigot. It probably wouldn't surprise me if he himself was a product of black bullying blacks as a kid. To the point where he's turned into a class racist, with a lot of deep seated hate.
basically all lower class black people have turned into gangster scum in his mind.
I think the situation should be something more along the lines of "cops vs. the general people" rather than "cops vs. blacks." Whenever people find out about an incident of police brutality from a white cop to a black man, they instantly assume it's a hate crime involving racism. I find it irritating that only blacks start rioting and protesting passionately after such incidents. These such events should touch EVERYONE, regardless of race, not just blacks.
Scenario: If a group of BLACK cops assaulted or shot an unarmed black man, would blacks still be as aggravated as if a group of white cops assaulted or shot an unarmed black man? In this case, people of all races (maybe except supremacist whites) would start to open up their eyes and take a stand. Because the cops AND the victim were black, people wouldn't consider this as a racial hate crime in any way.
Society's views are very deluded. Apparently, people believe that police brutality incidents only occur if a white cop assaults/shoots an unarmed black man. They don't realize that the problem should be more about "cops against the people," especially because of how certain cops may abuse their power and authority. ____________ Subscribe to the Club Entertainment podcast on the iTunes Store!
Meh this movies is full of cliches clusily trying to deliver a message. Dont be a menace ridicule this part really well though.
And lets be honest, if you were a black cop dealing day to day with young black males that hate you, want to kill you, have shot you, you know they listen to music and use language thats about killin cops, you see how they sell drugs to mothers, how they rape women and steal from elderly people, maybe your partner has been killed by these kids or they even shot up your house and put your family in danger, then yeah you probably would start hating those kinds of people even if they are your own race.
the gangbangers i know actually HATE rapists and people who harm women and children...and you really thing all these types of criminals you mention are all black males?...your hypothetical black cop exists in some virtual world that doesn't exist...
"You've never heard of a self hating black person?" ________________________________________________________________________________
Yeah. Guess a lot of black folks hate themselves, and therefore each other. Sad. They still call each other the "n-word". I'm not saying EVERY black person, but enough. I see little to no respect that blacks have for each other. Again, I'm not talking about EVERY black person (it would be ludicrous to paint that broad a stroke).
Yea after spending time policing the baddest urban areas and see these type of bad people on a day to day bases can put stress on you. Even if its your own race it can make you hate your own people if there are so many bad ones out there thats making the whole race look bad.
I understand the point you are trying to make and do feel that some black are hypocritical when it comes to certain issues involving race. As a young black man myself I rather focus on both sides of the issue rather then just on one point of view. Just because you’re my same race does not mean that I will feel extra sympathy for you as the next person with a different ethnicity. This is my own way of looking at the issue, I rather judge people on their on their character and not there color.
The reality of the situation is that many people of different ethnicities will continue to stand behind their race. Some will back them up no matter what and others will back them up based on ethics of whatever conflict there in.
you have people like that in any minority group that is demonized in society. i come from an Asian community and there are lots of people like this. people get surrounded by so much negativity and prejudice about their own kind that they begin to resent themselves for being within that group.
It's actually a very common thing. It happens a lot among women as well. How many teenage/young adult women have you met who seem to resent the fact that they are female and go off on the whole "most women are just back stabbing b*tches, that's why I only hang out around guys" and have a mentality of just appeasing men.
YOu should watch a film called the Believer - it is a true story that revolves around this topic - a young Jew who becomes a violent anti semetic neo nazi.
This is an incredibly common phenomenon

is the refusal to integrate offenders for society, if you have yourself worked hard and gone through tests for that.
This is not racism but rather the anger of offenders belonging to his ethnic group, which tarnish this one, and going beyond a form of denial of the "good elements" by the rejection of "bad".
I met very often this kind of attitude, and various immigrant communities (of different generations), Italian, African, Arab, etc ... But it is usually a notice of the first generation to the next, or the second on the third.
there's a difference between frustrated at elements of a culture or individual people and hating someone just because of their racist. The ladder is called racism. in the film, the cop hates Tre for no reason other than he is black. this is racism and it's wrong.
I'm in a minority group in the states and there are things I dislike about my culture. i've even gone through younger, hate filled stages where i just dismissed my own people because of that frustration. but disliking someone simply because of their race/culture is *beep* wrong.

I don't think the cop hated himself; I think he was just frustrated that these young black kids were living up to the bad stereotypes & he had to be the one enforcing the law. He was disgusted to see his fellow black men falling into gangs & breaking the law rather than walk the straight & narrow (it's possible - he's living proof that you can make it out of the ghetto & do something positive with your life). Yeah, there are plenty of self-loathing people out there but just because he busted on Tre doesn't mean he hated himself. More like he hated seeing kids ruin their lives & was so burned out on all the crime he witnessed that it clouded his judgment & he took it out on a good kid before knowing all the facts.
