Not Realistic, But Great Nonetheless

The whole gang violence thing was sensationalized by a ratings-hungry media in the 90's. Sure it happened, but not nearly to the extent of these types of movies.
I'm 42 and lived in cities and worked graveyard shift as a cab driver. Not once was I held up or shot at by gangs and I worked what was reputed to be the most dangerous areas.
Great movie, but it's really for entertainment purposes only.
In reality, our government is the only gang you really need to worry about.

One of my professors told me the opposite. He worked as a teacher in a poor/bad area in LA for a year or two (forgot) after college. He did this so he wouldn't have to pay back his college loans.

Everyone has their own personal experiences.

Are you referring to this movie? There is hardly any gang violence in this. This movie doesn't even touch on the blood/crip rivalry that garners the media coverage. There is one murder followed by three, in retaliation, which could happen anywhere.

Are you one of those whites that get all of your information on inner-city life from the media that is controlled by other whites? That never made sense to me. A white saying that a inner-city film is not "Realistic". Explain that logic.

Wouldn't this film qualify as white-controlled media? i don't think Columbia Pictures is run by black people. I don;t know how much power john Singleton had over the making of this film. The producer sure wasn't black. Who knows if he told Singleton "too many dead people. Tone it down". I hope not. I'd like to think that Singleton was given carte blanche over his art and that this film is accurate as it is powerful.

Jews control the media, dumbass.

Well that's your story but just because it never happened to you doesn't give you the right to say its fabricated and exaggerated or that it was for entertainment purposes. This movie is absolutely realistic. I've never broken my leg before but it doesn't give me the right to tell people that have, their injury is just exaggerated pain and their crutches are only for dramatics and entertainment purposes.

Some of those gang bamngers make more in one day than a cabbie would in two weeks. What advantage would it serve to hold up a cabbie? It would only bring HEAT....

It's about power and control.

A lot of these people do not use brains otherwise once they gain all that wealth they would leave move to other side of the country.

I'm glad you never had trouble, but gang activity and violent crime was bad in the early 90s. New York City regularly had 2k+ murders every year, 2600 in 1990 alone.

For a city of 10M or whatever it was in 1990, 8 murders a day isnt that many.
