Aspect ratio of the movie?

Does anybody know what is the original aspect ratio of the movie? I bought the DVD blindly, as I love this movie and the DVD cover was quite classy, but I was very desappointed to see that the image was 4:3, and on top of that it is not a very good transfer.

I think the movie is not 4:3 and so, the image has been cropped, can anybody confirm this?

It is a shame that the only DVD available of this movie is such a let down. It doesn't even has subtitles... (English is not my mother language)

The correct aspect ratio of 29th Street is 2.35:1 (scope).

Thanks for the info.
Damn the DVD release then... :(
I wish I had not bought it.

You're welcome, any time. I know it's dissappointing. I prefer the original widescreen format myself. But if it came out on DVD in either format I'd buy it. It's one of my favorite movies of all time I'd take it however I can get it. I'm dying for a Region 1 anamorphic widescreen DVD with 5.1 sound...and a trailer hehe. 20th Century Fox is the slowest moving studio when it comes to DVD production. My VHS copy is worn out completely since I watched it so many times.

So, is there a decent DVD planned for a Region 1 release?

I hate to break it to you Clark Kent, but the movie was shot 35mm Flat so a 2.35:1 aspect is impossible even for the man of steel to pull off. Try 1.85:1 matte instead. But, thanks for using fancy words liked "cropped" ans "scope". Oh and I am looking at the 16x9 NTSC and PAL and we have made it look pretty good, the original transfer was probablly done in an URSA rank and before DRS aka Dirt Removal was possible so it most likely looks bad. Hopefully they will use this High Definition master and its downconversions for DVD and Cable. I close in the words of Philly the Nap "get the F#@k outta here before I cut your nuts off and have them w/ my Calimare!"

Before tearing into someone for using "fancy" words like cropped and scope, you may want to learn how to spell 'probably'.
