Dil and his inability to "talk"

When I was a kid I always wondered why those newborn babies in the 1st movie could talk & Dil can't. Yeah I know the scene was just supposed to be funny but supposedly the babies can't talk, they're just talking in "baby talk" & it's translated in to English so we can understand it (Susie & Angelica still understand it because they're only 3). So why doesn't Dil talk in "baby talk"? Apart from a few words...

reply

Because Dil was a newborn.

Debra Morgan: "Goddamn pantyhose! Has anyone ever died from crotch asphyxiation?"

reply

Yes but the other newborns talked (and sung) in the movie

reply

Because the new writers were idiots, and Dil's very creation was absurd when you actually understand the concept of the series, which not many people do.

No, that was never decided by the original writers. They never decided whether they only talked behind the adults' back, or whether the adults just couldn't understand them, and never wanted to make that distinction. In the original pilot, however, they purposely waited for the adults to leave to start talking. They decided not to make a point of showing it was behind their back after they later decided they didn't want it to be so deliberate.
