The mating dance episode...

So inappropriate! Going back and watching it now I can't believe my parents let me watch this as a 12 year old.

Was there a more adult ep of Dinosaurs than this one? I doubt it...the scene where Robby gets caught by his mom "dancing" in his room was hilariously cringeworthy.

There were 2 mating dance episodes and that's kind of funny in itself because there are 2 different mating dances, Robbie's is more classical while Earl's is more...I don't know.

"What Sexual Harris" meant is pretty risque, too. But hilarious.

Still, I doubt kids would even get most of the references.

...inappropriate? Oh come on. If you catch on to the innuendos you're old enough to have a laugh about them, if you're to young to pick up on them, no harm done.

That's the inappropriate episode? Lol this whole series was inappropriate, there's an abortion joke in the first episode

reply

I don't recall there being an abortion joke in the pilot episode.

The only thing i can think of is Earl thinking the egg was for dinner?

Which i found funny :P

reply

I don't remember it exactly, but it's something along the lines of Earl suggesting not letting the egg hatch.

Well, if by inappropriate you mean things like war and global destruction of a species, then the Nuts To War episodes, Endangered Species (Grapdelite) and the Changing Nature series finale have to top the list as being very non-child friendly topics. I thought all were well-handled anyway. All the sexual innuendo stuff was thickly plastered over in comedic terms so if a viewer was old enough to grasp the references, they were okay to deal with the topic.

Episodes dealing with racism, drug addiction, ecology, societal degeneration, bullying and some other things don't- or can't be allowed to- have a preset age limit for discussion with kids today. Again, I don't recall a case where the show took too blatant a tone for a child audience.

Being eaten as dinner; going off to war; and the total end of your world and everyone you know are pretty heavy topics for kids. Each case, as mentioned above was dealt with quite well, even up to the episode that was meant to be the end of everything.

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.

you call it inappropriate, I call it genius!

As a kid I loved the series with Baby's catch phrase "not the mama" and I just remember being purely entertained by the series during it's original run.

As an adult you re-watched the series on Netflix, I caught all the innuendos and realized they dealt with many serious topics in such an approachable way.

I just re-watch "I never at my father" and realized it's about homophobia. "Oh no my kid is a herbivore, I should have taken him hunting!"

I think you are confusing your titles
The mating dance is from the 1st season and it smartly deals with the change in relationship after kids and how gender roles can take a toll on you and how to yes get you sex life back after kids. But it was truly an innocent episode.

One of my favorite episodes is "Dirty Dancing" (the one about Robbie's leg and you're referring to) I found the show dealt with talking about teen sex better than any other family sitcom of the 90's, because it wasn't overly preachy but still brought up relevant points and issues.

I cannot wait to share this series with my children.

Great points raised by Vinsane and MissVCI.

Even as an adult re-watching this, I don't find the mating dance episode inappropriate at all. As a child I innocently thought it was sweet even though I only had a vague clue what it really meant, as an adult I find it even sweeter (and with more than a vague clue). This show did a really excellent job of tackling some very interesting topics with satire, comedic timing and subtlety. I don't honestly think there are many others that have the look of a "children's show" that can really say the same.
