what is the age group?

what is the target age group for this series? i enjoyed watching it, but my family say i am too old to watch a silly show with puppets, but based on the content, i would not let my 8 year old child watch it either and tell them that they are too young to watch it. so where is the cut off line?

i live my life for what i believe is right... even if it is controversial or funny...

There is no cutoff line, the show was specifically made to work on an adult level and a kid level.

I have to agree with Novastar, the show was made so that it would appeal to both children and adults. Quite a bit of the more adult humor is still over the heads of tweens and unders, though some tweens and teens would catch on (thanks to the changing society we live in).

Personally, I don't think anyone is "too old to watch a silly show with puppets" - I'm over thirty and I still enjoy the various muppet movies, a variety of cartoons, and all sorts of drama, action, comedy, etc. I really don't think there's such a thing as "too old" when it comes to entertainment. Frankly, I would guess that people telling you that are subconsciously jealous that you can still take pleasure in something they no longer can (or will, if they're overly concerned with what others would think of them for doing so), and I wouldn't bother letting it upset you. If you enjoy the show, allow yourself to continue to do so, whenever you want to, without apology. We all like different things, exceptionally little in life is "one size fits all" and certainly what we enjoy isn't on that brief list.

Watching the show as a late teenager and an adult when they FINALLY released it on DVD after SIX LONG YEARS of NO syndicated reruns on TV, which about drove me out of my mind, I realize I got a lot more of those 'two level' jokes than I probably should've as a 9-10 year old. There were still a few that I didn't get, but I knew most of what they were talking about. For example, in Nuts to War, I didn't really get Earl, posing as a USO girl, saying to the general, "Believe me, I already have a lot of the same things you do", but I did, at least I think I did, get Charlene's "I was born to give pleasure to whole groups of boys", everybody else said prostitute, but I figured groups, large groups all at the same time, stripper, LOL!

It was for everybody, young and old. Baby's antics and Earl's escapades were to appeal to the younger kids. Robbie and Charlene's teen angst, school challenges and dating mishaps were to appeal to the teenage, young adult viewers. Earl, Fran and their friends and their struggles and Earl's problems at work were to appeal to the adult viewers, and stuff with Ethyl was for the senior citizens in the audience. It covered everybody.

I was about 24 when I discovered the show in the mid 1990's.

I still enjoy it now and I'm 45. And being a Brit I am still discovering the little in-jokes like "Sinclair" (mainly thanks to watching American Pickers).

I was a kid during the TGIF era and my parents wouldn't allow me to watch this one because it was "too adult" which I didn't understand because they were muppets for crying out loud.

Saw it later as a teen in re-runs and found it entertaining. Thought it was funny though because I really don't think I would have gotten the Robby/herbivore episode, or the other satirical things if I did see it at a younger age. The show is very clever in making fun of human behavior because it is depicted in a different way.

The only thing I got as a kid was when they found the vegetables in his room in baggies, that that was an allusion to drugs 'somebody must've given it to him, he doesn't even know what it is'.

I still enjoy watching this show I'm 33 years old now. I started out watching the show when I was 9 in 1991, then my parents saw what I was watching and took a liking to it. My dad used to tape the episodes on VHS.

I used to watch this show when I was a kid all the time. I recently got the first season on DVD and my family and I all had a good laugh while watching it together. Like someone else said, no cutoff line. I'm in my 20s now and still enjoy this series.

i don't remember how old i was the first time i watched it (around 10? younger, maybe?) but i enjoyed it a lot. watching it now again at 28, i still enjoy it and get a lot of plots and jokes that flew over my head as a child.

there's nothing wrong with letting young kids watch shows like that, they don't get the adult content, anyway, and don't care about it. same with the Simpsons, i guess. i loved them since i was 6 or something, and i still catch jokes i never understood as a kid or teenager ;)
