Would you have forgiven Earl?

One thing about TV dads is that they tend to be bumbling and trouble making, usually dropping the ball and having to solve the problem at the end of the episode, and no matter what silly situation he gets into, his family finds a way to love him....

Earl was no exception.

But he freakin' ENDED ALL LIFE!!!!

This was a far cry from "Ooops, I embarassed my daughter in front of the cute boy!" "Oops, I forgot my wedding anniversary!" "Ooops I misplaced the baby!"

He essentially killed his family, and all he says was, "I'm sorry. I should've had more respect for nature." Kinda too late for that now, huh Earl?

I know it's a family-centered sitcom, so they most likely wanted to promote togetherness through thick and thin, but realistically, because of this "goof ball", his kids will not get a chance to grow up, get married, and live out their lives. Fran will never get to have grandchildren. He didn't just kill his family, he killed his friends, he killed EVERYBODY.

Personally, if I was Fran, I would've said, "Enough is enough! You blew it BIG this time! We all may be about to die, but you are NOT dying with this family! OUT OF THIS HOUSE NOW!!!" But maybe I'm just a bitter cynic...

Would YOU have cut him some slack?

My world is boring; hence the name. :P

That's a tough call for me.

Some people would say it's the WeSaySo corporation's fault for building that wax fruit factory over the swamp where the bunch beetles mated, oh yeah & they killed all the bunch beetles except Stan.

Without the bunch beetles being able to mate & have babies, the cider poppies grew rapidly & their obviously a threat from what I saw (the babies eat the cider poppies).

I may or may not forgive Earl if I were a character in the show.

Earl was just appointed head of the task force, probably by Mr. Richfield as a fall guy or something.

If Mr. Richfield were the head of the task force, nobody would've forgiven him.

He was very mean, nasty & greedy (but still a cool & enjoyable character in my opinion) & I bet not even his daughter really liked him (especially when he almost ate Robbie & when she learned her Dad ate the other boyfriends).

Would it change anything ? It's not that Earl could learn anything from that.
Why punish him ? It's just too late for anger.

It's not much different from Marge Simpson sticking by Homer. In fact, in the final episode of 'The Simpsons,' the camera will probably pan back to take in the entire Earth, we'll hear a faraway "D'oh!" and the planet will explode.

"You may have come on no bicycle, but that does not say that you know everything."

To be fair, Earl Sinclair had doubts when Mr. Richfield suggested them dropping bombs to create clouds to bring back rainwater...

It's a combination of things.

1) They didn't know for sure that it was the end of their world/life.

2) Even if they fully expected it to be the end of their existence, at that point, what's the point of holding a grudge. Earl had figured out that he was wrong and knew he had made mistakes. Had he really known the true consequences for his actions, he wouldn't have done it. Basically, Earl wasn't evil at heart, just misguided at times.

3) Finally though, I'd personally blame We Say So as Earl was just more of a puppet or mouth piece for them. Earl was just doing what he was told. However, We Say So probably could have determined the results of their actions but they didn't care, they were just out to get as much money as possible. So, push come to shove, I'm blaming them over Earl.
