I haven't seen the new one, but I didn't hear wonderful things about it. This movie was always one of my favorites. I caught it on TV late at night at some point in the 90s when I was growing up. Love it.

Rewatching it again and remember this film haunting me as a kid. But I remember him remaining a mouse and it saddening me after.

You may be thinking of the book.

SPOILER FOR THE BOOK:

At the end of the book the boy is still a mouse and it doesn't look likely for him ever changing back.

Really fun film also pretty creepy in parts as well.

Yes. Just watched it again. The cast are all excellent. Love the SFX. The story. And creepy at times. Not to be missed.

I was extremely well impressed with this movie. I don't know what was wrong with the author that he didn't like it.

This film was the last worked on personally by the great Jim Henson. The practical effects and especially the Grand High Witch makeup are iconic. Anjelica Huston was amazing in this movie. The remake is utter garbage.
