No turtle film has topped this.

That includes "Over the Hedge" which has nothing to do with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Very true. It is actually a great movie. It's too bad that they didn't bring back Steve Barron to direct the sequel and it might have been just as good.

reply

I love how they tried to make it as realistic as possible. Obviously they're talking turtles, but the dark look really legitimized the film.

reply

Well the suits were just fantastic too. There are a couple of scenes where the mouth movements looked way off, but the ability for the actors to move around at fast speeds and do "ninja" moves was incredible. Additionally there is a heavy theme thrown around about family, not just with the turtles, but with Danny and his Dad too. Splinter just embodies knowledge and wisdom with everything he says. It's a great movie and appeals to kids and adults.

reply

I wonder how much I would have liked this if I never saw this as a kid and only saw it as an adult. Maybe I might have even appreciated it more.

reply

This was back when they tried to base property based movies in our reality and the movies were better for it.

reply

Yeah, now everything is cartoony.

reply

well they should have never killed shredder in this and actually set up a sequel

reply

Shredder didn't die, and he was in the sequel.

reply

He fell off a building and was crushed by a garbage truck. Should have went the cartoon show route. Be defeated and retreat.

reply

In the sequel you see him wake up in the garbage dump. He wasn't dead.

reply

Im aware, I saw the sequel and that's part of the reason it wasn't as good and why the franchise had no where to go but DOWN.

reply

I don't understand, if you were aware about him not being dead and in the sequel why did you write this?

"well they should have never killed shredder in this and actually set up a sequel"

reply

He died in the first one. The second pretended like nothing happened when he fell about 10 stories and was crushed to death.

I AGREE...THE ANIMATRONICS,JUDITH HOAG,CASEY JONES,THE DARK TONE,WEAPONS,ETC ETC ETC...THIS IS THE GOLD STANDARD OF TURTLE FILMS...I WISH I COULD SAY PART 2 IS MY FAVORITE BUT THE KID TONE,LACK OF WEAPONS AND WORST OF ALL...NO CASEY JONES ELIMINATES IT...MUTANT MAYHEM IS EASILY THE BEST TURTLE FEST SINCE THE 1990 CLASSIC.

reply

It's crazy they didn't bring back the same director, actress for April and Casey Jones for the sequel. It makes no sense at all. The film was a huge hit, budget of 15 million or 30 (however you want to calculate marketing), but brought in 200.

I miss films like that this that really highlight how to use practical effects and real costumes which are sorely missed in today's movies. Yes, we can make some amazing worlds and things, but MOST of the time they don't look as good as the real thing.

reply

I think part 3 is worse than 2. The turtles look lying they're dying in part 3.

It's a bit disappointing that YOU watch talking turtles. 🗣️ 🐢🐢🐢
English or Maori? ☺
Ok ok, some things I watch aren't bright either.

Nostalgia.

Ok, will stop to tease you. ☺ 💋

Those ones are hideous.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Wolf Like Me (2022 ff).
This epic production reminded me to 'your' talking turtles.
It's a different plot though.
But if you like watching completely neurotic people (including a female neurotic werewolf), this might be for you. 🐺

reply

Season 2 is starting next month.

reply

I agree.
