Why was it banned in Norway?

From IMDB: Norway:(Banned) (1990-2003)

Does anyone have any idea of why this movie was banned in Norway? I am from Norway myself, and I have no idea. Sure, it is violent, but I don't find it any worse than lets say Casino, which is a fully legal movie here in Norway, among with a lot of other violent movies.

Anyone have a clue?

reply

I didn't know that. Curious.

So no one knows?

I have been searching for reasons at google, but I havn't found any. They all just say that it is banned and nothing more.

I'll take a guess it was because of violence during final shootout scene. Some European countries aren't big on violence.

Just a guess though...

If that is the case and it may well be, the films Heat and The Wild Bunch two that immediately come to mind should also be on the banned list, could be. Throw in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid also.

reply

Nope I don't think that is why. Because Heat, and a lot more violent movies are legal here. Actually I think Norway is one of the least that are least strict with violene. I can barely think of any other banned movies here. The only thing I can think of right now is Postal, the PC game... It is stricter in the UK. I see movies that gets rated 15 here often gets rated 18 over there. I don't think this movie was banned in the UK either.

It contained some kind of trigger in the movie, that if someone saw it from the years 1990-2003, would alter the course of history in an undesired way.

Does Norway have an anti-smoking public health policy?

Plenty of cigarettes were smoked in this movie, even in a church (also alcohol for that matter).

reply

it was probably not just the violence, but the amount of blood splatter shown. you compared it to Heat, but Heat had far less graphic splattering, fingers shot off, chunks of skin flying, etc.

Wow Norway, you guys need to man up. Along with this, other titles such as Robocop 2, New Jack City, Child's Play, Friday The 13th Part 3, Hard Target, Predator 2, Enter The Dragon, Commando (LOL), and High Plains Drifter (LOLOL).

Seems most have been repealled now, but my God that's a pathetic list of "banned films". http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/992946/posts
