OLDMAN's BEST...PERIOD

I have seen most of Oldman's films. I think this is his best work. His Hell's Kitchen accent is flawless. I used to live there I know....

I love him as Stansfield too in The Professional....but this was his best role ...

Agree? Disagree?

I'm definitely biased because it's my favourite film but Drexl from 'True Romance'' will always stand out for me. It would have been so easy for him to play it all camp but he absoloutely becomes his character and while being very funny, is also deadly serious and scary! Also he steals the film from actors like Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walen, Val Kilmer, Bronson Pinchot, Christian Slater, Tom Sizemore and Chris Penn (who all give scene stealing performances themselves). This and Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glenn Ross are probably the two greatest cameos ever in a film!

And Gary Oldman is the greatest actor in history and Ed Harris isn't far behind him. That's why State of Grace is such an enjoyable film! One of the great casts assembled!

I have to dissagree on that one. I guess it all comes down to personal choice, but I thought his best was in Sid And Nancy. I guess I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to romantic films, if you know what I mean. But I loved him in this film as well, his accent was great!

I don't know if it's his best, but it's one of his best. Why he has never been nominated for an Oscar is a mystery.

To me, Stansfield is Oldman's best.
2nd. Drexl, and then, yes, Jackie Flannery.

I loved this character. Crazy, a little sick, but at the same time sensitive, charming, cuddly, sweet, attractive, very lovable.
In fact, when this character is killed, I don't believe Sean Penn and Ed Harris can fill the emptiness that Oldman leaves on the screen. Seriously.

BTW: About Sid and Nancy I have a problem. I don't like very much the actress who performed Nancy, and despite Oldman was INCREDIBLE there, as they both stuck physically together all the movie, I can't really appreciate his work as I could do if she wasn't that annoying and distracting (specially her voice), and I have to make a big effort to focus on him. Meaning, I know how good he was, but her presence ruined it a bit for me.

John C. Reily wwas very good in this as well.

This Bellini is starting to look like a real Kapuchnik.

100% agreed. I missed this movie (for some reason, I just skipped it every time I had the opportunity to watch it) but man what I mistake. Although I am a vivid Sean Penn fan (and they tried to make him the star of the movie), Gary Oldman stole the show and his performance is stunning. His love hate relationship with his brother and sister (Robin Wright (Penn)), Terry (Sean Penn) and his craziness is just too perfect. As somebody on Amazon said in their review, "You HAVE to love him".

Oldman is great in everything he does, so underrated!

It was a great performace and in here, Leon and True Romance, he is the epitome of cool. But his best for me his best performance is in Immortal Beloved. He was so subtle and nuanced and it was one of the best performances I have ever seen.

Disagree. Macho posturing hamtastic bullsh_t that any fool could have done. He brought nothing to it beyond what was on the page.

I agree, it's probably his very best.
He completely nailed this hot-headed, loudmouthed, heavy drinker, yet vulnerable and somehow likable character who is rushing toward his doom.
Just brilliant from all its emotional complexity to all the movements, gestures, facial expressions, line delivery, accent, everything.
No matter how many times I watch it again, he always blows me away.

I agree with that but I think his all time best and most powerful scene could indeed be the 'everyone' scene from Leon.

I have to agree. He is balls-out in this film and I like how he has a beer or a pint in his hand in almost every scene! I like when he rides around drinking whiskey for breakfast and is never afraid of being pulled over by cops! He was fearless & reckless at the same time. Another great role he did was Jack in 'Romeo is Bleeding'!
