I can't understand the rating either, it was indeed a nice film!!! The teaming of De Niro and Fonda worked well, not like some others. The storyline was intelligent and I couldn't faulter the acting...it deserves better!!!

I think it deserves a 7, great performances from Fonda and De Niro, really nice feel good film, something a bloke can watch with his Mrs quite easilly.

This should have been another Oscar nomination for Jane Fonda (whom I worship) and possibly also a nomination for DeNiro (whom I don't at all care for). The problem was with the ending, which wrecked the entire movie. Look, I realize this was 1990, not 1970, so I don't expect Stanley to join the Peace Corps and Iris to become den mother for a Twelve Step commune , but this ending was nonsensically unrealistic.

I gave it a 10 out of 10. I actually don't see it as a perfect film but it's such a small picture. I found it very touching. They just don't make simple pictures like this anymore. Just never. I mean the writers were born in 1919 and 1920 respectively. What ever happened to character writers?
shareI agree it's much better than the ratings & the critics indicate. Some of the criticism sounds snobbish or just personal attacks on Jane Fonda. I give it an 8.
