Anybody think the 'map' thing was a little unfair? *spoilers*

*spoilers*

I thought making Stanley find his way around the streets without Iris happened way too soon. He wasn't ready for it. I didn't think he should have given up, but I don't blame him for being very angry!

Anyone agree?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I disagree. And I thought his reaction was way over the top and uncalled for. It ruined his character for me how he treated her afterwards. Also her counter-reaction was unreasonable, she should have at least been a little angry with his bad attitude.

reply

Me too. So it was a little too advanced for him, so what? I get it that he was touchy about his reading, but come on.

And really, how hard could that exercise have been? She gave him a map with all the street names written out. All he had to do was match the symbols on the paper to the street signs. He should have been able to do that in ANY language.

reply

Yeah, I agree. That behavior was not consistent to the character that we thought he was at that point in the story.

I do agree in that it was a little too soon, though she clearly didn't think so. Of course he overreacted, but that definitely was in line with his character. I think I understand his frustration to a degree, because I'm not good with directions myself.

As for the other posters saying they were put off by his reaction, well it made perfect sense to me, unless I'm forgetting the sequence of events. I actually would have been surprised if he had responded differently considering his personality and presumably limited social interactions.

Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela, Madiba we love you!

Yeah. It was indeed too soon.
