Why didn't Rocky go the pitchman/television supporting actor route?

So yeah, I find it to be extremely unlikely that there was no rental car company that Rocky could run through an airport on camera for or appear as a supporting actor in an action/comedy show or film.

^This is the route that lots of retired athletic legends go after leaving the arena. Why didn't Rocky go this route so he could make some $$$ and help deal with the financial roadblock he was dealing with. I mean, the guy had just secured a major victory by defeating Drago in a USA vs USSR situation; wouldn't directors and corporate advertising folks be lined up to cast him in one sort of media or the other? Serious plot hole to this shitty sequel.

He tried that in Rocky 2 and got made fun if by the director. It might have turned him off to that scene and it's really not his personality type. He's also not the brightest bulb.

He couldn't read in Rocky II. By Rocky III, he was swimming in endorsements if the opening Montage was to be believed. It's incredibly unlikely that right after the Drago fight, probably the most epic boxing match ever, that he couldn't get a single endorsement deal to help his family.

Didn't the script try to hand-wave the notion that Rocky Balboa couldn't land any more endorsements despite not being able/allowed to box anymore due to his past job of working for Tony Gazzo? Basically, the fact that Rocky prior to his fame, worked for a small-time gangster/loan shark would've scared off potential endorsement seekers.

Even that doesn't make sense since this movie takes place immediately after Rocky IV which itself took place immediately after Rocky III. So when it comes endorsements and such the situation shouldn't have changed. =S

I mean Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist and hes had no trouble getting deals or movie cameos.

Rocky V's script was really a terrible rush job, without boxing Rocky could have still kept his celebrity status and really make money out of commercials for the rest of his life.

Originally it was a "Death of Rocky" film but the staff chickened out, funny how it really KO'ed the franchise for next 15 years.

Also, why aren't Adrian and Robert Jr. too concerned over Rocky fighting Tommy in the middle of the street? I mean, if I were Adrian, I would be pretty pissed off if my husband was recklessly risking his life over some petty bullshit. Especially if he's fighting, but isn't going to make any money off it to help put food on the table. And if I'm Rocky's son, wouldn't I actually be kind of embarrassed that my dad is suddenly on TV acting like a drunken street hooligan?

That whole street fight thing was stupid.

It was unsafe for Rocky to fight in a boxing match, where combatants wear gloves on their hands and there's doctors and medical professionals present. But he managed to get through a fight on the street alright?

You would think the US government would have provided for him since he ended the Cold War.

Great point - I mean, they would have hired him on to be the host of a 4th of July event in DC or commissioned him to go on a speaking tour to high schools about the dangers of sports related brain injuries that would promote safety practices amongst the youth of the nation.

Man, Rocky V is plothole city.
