When Rocky 5 first came out in 1990, Sly and his son did many interviews together to promote the movie. So Sly bringing in his own son to portray Rocky Jr was a big deal at the time, leaving everyone wondering if this would begin Sage's budding acting career to follow in his father's foot steps. The whole 'father and son acting and working together' angle was a new spin to keep the rocky franchise fresh at the time, though failed miserably. Plus Rocky Jr's role was more dramatic as he became more of a central focus to Rocky V, thus needing an older actor to portray him.
