Between this and Heathers, I thought that Christian Slater was going to be a huge star like DiCaprio or Depp. I know he's been successful, but he never quite got to that level.

reply

Yeah i think hard rain fucked him, such an expensive movie that floped. I like hard rain tho . But in my mind christian slater can do no wrong

Fuckin love heathers

It's weird how some movies fall through the cracks, even after attention is given to them from pop culture celebration shows. To this day Slater still says this was his favorite film he's done. And yet, still nobody gives a toss.

reply

I've seen it at least ten times. One of my favourite movies. I don't think it's perfect. But something about it speaks to me.

A fave of mine as well. Samantha Matthis loved her character. Have been disappointed with her roles since.

reply

Yeah. Nothing really noteworthy.

reply

I liked it at the time, but it reeks of 90s teenage angst, and they were overdone in this era.

reply

🤣

1990 was the year for being done with 90's

I think it gets snowed under the John Hughes teen classics.

It’s more of a drama, and it’s a little unfocused. It’s not clear exactly what the problem is beyond some generalised teen angst. It reaches for some specificity with the school corruption but that ends up detracting from the universalism of Hard Harry’s message.

I liked it and found it charming but I can see why it’s not a bona fide classic like Bueller. Like, why is Mark so shy in real life?

Samantha Mathis was really charming and hot, she’s never matched this performance from what I’ve seen. It was nice to see her reunite with Slater in Broken Arrow but she’s really wooden in that film, and kinda chunky.
