What´s so terrible about that school?

The whole movie it is said how much the students suffer there. But in what respect? Are the teachers too strict? Are there many bullies? The movie should have shown this more clearly.

Um it was quite clear the teachers (especially the principal) didn't give a rats about the kids. They treated the place like a prison camp by taking away things like music and the right of free expression. Plus the principal expelled innocent kids just for slipping grades.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass....and I'm all out of bubble gum

Umm.. they did CLEARLY say the music is a PRIVELEGE.. and I never got that MOST of the teachers didn't care.. just were clueless.. like the guidance councilor Deever. Granted.. NOW? a pregnant girl is not a HUGE deal in school.. but in what I would call probably a small affluent Arizona school district.. that's a SCANDAL.

The worst of course was the Principal.. who would kick out the "less desirables" but was still funnelling the federal funds (allegedly anyway) back into the school, keeping them on the attendance rosters.

I live in small area in the Upper peninsula of Michigan. So we have longer winters and hearing about a local Teen getting pregnant usually is not a big deal. There is one school here that the graduating class is about 25 - 35 kids. A few years ago he Valivictorian (I can't spell that word lol) got pregnant and when she had her baby they announced it of the speaker system in the school. And I mean very thing - How big the baby was, what the sex was, and so on....

Excuse me, but did you actually watch the movie all the way through? Everything wrong with the school and the ILLEGAL way the principal was running things was made quite clear at the end. PAY ATTENTION. Next time they'll be a test.

Exactly! Also the one guidance counselor leaked confidential information in a session to the Principal to get an "undesired" student expelled.

Well, it's the 90's. We didn't had any problems back then but nonetheless we thought the world was just unfair to us.

considering the moving is based on true events up to but not including a pirate radio station. your right thought it wasn't in the 90's it was west phoenix in the eighties.

reply

This. The 90’s was paradise compared to the post 9/11 shithole we now live in. Hard Harry increasingly looks like an ungrateful douche.

The Principle Cresswood was a serious B****!

They expelled one student for getting pregnant!

They expelled Mazz just because he was a punk rocker/ different

Also Paige Woodward was all pressured all the time to be an A+ Student and eventually snapped!

Hubert Humphrey High seriously blew chunks and I am glad that Hard Harry was able to rally everyone to make it better with a message of healing!

Anybody who feels a need to ask what's wrong with this school is not seeing it through a kid or a student's eyes, but through an adult, a parent's or a teacher's.
