After Patty walks out of Carters hotel room she has an envelope of money which she puts under the maids clipboard, she then takes the envelope and puts some money on maids trolley but not all of it, why did she bother to do that?
Wish I could help you, but it's been several years since I've rewatched this very underrated thriller. I do however recall that at the end of the movie, both husband and wife are in such despair, they make some very impulsive and foolish decisions to deal with Keaton. After seeing this film, I never wanted to make money as a landlord, and I am presently helping someone evicting tenants almost as bad as he was, at least in terms of knowing how to play the system.
Aside from Vertigo, I think Pacific Heights is the best San Francisco noir or thriller ever. The couple has such hopes when they get the property. The movie's as much of a drama as it is a thriller. This is definitely NOT a typical "psycho-killer" film.
she changes her mind because all the debt they owe really set into her mind,
& she's owed that money from him for not only the security depo & 1st month rent but for all the damage he'd done to the apartment he was dwelling in
