What a horrible casting job. If the idea was for the audience to sympathize with these two then the plan failed. Their characters and acting were so bad that I was rooting for Keaton to win. Its ashame too because this movie had promise if they casted a protagonist who was likeable

I liked Melanie Griffith and her vulnerability. Matthew Modine really was terrible. A real schmuck.

lol yeah but most landlords ARE shmucks in real life. Especially newbies, naive and annoyingly stupid. matthew modine provided this lol

They were the right kind of naive landlords that were rather popular at the time when they had been a housing boom.
