color blindness

OK I know that color blindness will exclude somebody from being a SEAL but Im interested as to why. From what I learned about color blind people, they tend to look at outlines instead of color differences since they cant see that much color. By looking at outlines it gives them some advantages. Color blind people usually have much better night vision than regular color seeing people. Color blind people also are much better at seeing people in camoflage than color seeing people also due to the fact that they look for outlines instead of differences in color, which is how camoflage works, by blending in with the color. So if anything, a color blind person would be a great asset on a SEAL Team. So have they changed the standards about color blindness? They should consider doing so if they havnt.

Well in that case a color blind person wouldnt be able to see if a traffic light is red or green, which I know is why they always put red at the top and green at the bottom. However, even people who do have some color deficiencies often dont have any trouble seeing if a traffic light is red or green, so if they can see what color a traffic light is I dont see why it would be a problem for any of the other red/green things they need to see out in the field.

Do not fire at the red truck at all costs!

But which one is the red truck? I don't know because I'm a color blind!

That's stupid.

I'm red-green colour blind. This type of colourblind does not affect the ability to use NVGs, because it produces a monochromatic picture. The only thing that changes is what one defines as the hue being seen in the goggles.

The military has alot of gay medical rules. Much of the time one person will get denied for one thing and the next week another person will have no problem with it. Depends on severity too. Are you color "blind" or just color "deficient"? A vision that garners no discernable color is pretty *beep* dangerous and its obvious why you got denied.
But yeah if your just definicient and didnt know until you got tested then you should fight it and get doctors opinions. BTW depending on what hues you cant pick up, you may not be able to see through night vision goggles well.
If it helps to ease your mind I do know of a SEAL right now who got denied entry into the Navy for this and he fought it and eventually got brought into a diver medics office and after naming the color of everything he pointed to never got the isue brought up again.
