Navy Seals vs. GI Jane
Which one is more realistic?
shareThey're both realistic - GI Jane focuses on the controversy of having female recruits in the armed forces, while Navy SEALs is just a straight-out action movie while also showing a day in the life of a special forces operative. If I had to pick one then I'd probably go with Navy SEALs, 'cause I like seeing Michael Biehn's performances :)
shareNot to be a total jerk (well maybe it is to be a jerk) Navy SEALs are not Special Forces. They are Special Operations, the only Special Forces are what you would call the Army's Green Berets. The Green Berets official designation are Special Forces, as in 5th Special Forces Group which is the one depicted in the movie with John Wayne.
Okay off my soap box now. BTW I have enjoyed both movies but find Navy SEALs hits closer to the mark.
Navy Seals! When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...
I liked both. I liked how GI Jane took the NSW from a new point of view (I do not know if the training her group went through was realistic).
sharei dont have a clue which one is more realistic but i will say GI Jane was alot better than Navy Seals which was *beep*

Neither is more accurate. the female seal thing(a women will never be let into the Seals) is a bit ridicolous. G Watch one of the BUD/S training documentaries that run on Discovery Channel or the Military Channel and you see that GI jane gets the actually tone and most of the evolutions(Bud/s training fiexercises) correct. Navy Seals concentrates on a fictional fully operational seal team. Gi Jane concentrates on a fictional group of soldiers and sailors(several of the other candidates are referred to as Sgts, indicating the unit in GI Jane is a joint CT team) going thru a Bud/s style selection process. They are two different movies going over two different parts of being a seal.
shareRealistic? You must be kidding! Neither is realistic, thats why they are movies. So many plot elements in both stories are unrealistic as to be laughable. People who don't obey orders don't get to be SpecOps. People who don't work as a team don't get to be SpecOps. They get washed out or never make it into BUD/S or a similar program. They are not only a danger to themselves they endanger the whole team. Charlie Sheen's or David Vadim's character or simply stupid.
