I wonder why the filmakers didn't let you know if his partner would survive. They went out of their way to let her survive but the doctor didn't seem very optimistic about her chances to survive.
Anyway , I thought that the movie was very good and Garcia's performance was one of his strongest.
Her survival is superfluous. Not to sound cold, but you are asking for either two possibile endings, both of which sound trite: 1) he goes back, and she's awake but injured, he says he got him she closes her eyes smiles looks up at him and says something humerous about who are they going to go after next 2) he hears she died, he closes his eyes with the pain of the news and we see him at her funeral- she was his partner for a week or so, but he will endeavour in his career at IAD with her picture/a momento of her on his desk
I think Amy lives, but is crippled for a very long time. I suspect the blood that she lost damaged important nerves from her waist on downward and she probably needed a wheelchair for a long time. She also needed extensive therapy and had to take a desk job, poor thing. She eventually regained her ability to walk, but needed leg braces and a part-time cane.
But even if Amy were to die, I don't think Ray would keep her picture on his desk. Sounds cold, but Ray mostly saw her as an aquaintance, not a really close friend. He mostly used her for info on the IAD and for ideas on how to better track Dennis Peck's next move.
What they could have done, however, was kill off Avila's wife. That way, the final showdown would be a personal vendetta between him and Peck, and the film would have a more realistic and believable ending, don'cha think?
Not a bad idea...but what motivation would Peck have for killing Kathleen? Unless maybe Kathy and Peck fought or something. I get the feeling Raymond spend a night in the slammer, regardless of his motivation for killing Peck.
Clearly it would be wrong for the writers to kill off Amy.
Definitely. Amy was a very likeable character and they did have her survive for a reason. I suspect she was partially paralyzed however and needed time for rehab and recovery. Did you see my post-film summary I put here a little further down on what I think happened after the film? What do you think? What would YOU say happened after the film, esp. with Kathy, Amy, and Ray?
As for the post-film summary, yours was quite impressive.
Glad you liked it! Thanks.
And, also, what other films would you do a post-film summary for?
A couple of others...The Karate Kid. The Good Son. Working Girl to name a few. I love doing those and speculation what happens to the characters afterwards.
Expect mine to begin with my ending for the film - COMING SOON.
Wow, I can't wait to see yours! Esp. what you do with Amy, Kathleen and Raymond. Do you think Raymond winds up spending a night in the big can like I do? What do you think happens with poor Amy? Do you think Kathleen and Raymond's marriage lasts? Can't wait to see what you have!
I don't know yet. It's taking me quite a while to think about it. But I will eventually post it on this site. Just have patience.
Oh, I understand that; it took me a while also to figure out the plan for Raymond and Amy also. Glad you do plan to post it!
I know a couple of movies whose characters are tailor-made for updates: and Running Scared (for which I am currently doing a summary at this time) and Daylight. Have you seen either one?
I haven't. But, hey, neat that you're doing updates/sequels on those also. Have you seen the film The Good Son? I did an update on that one, if you want to check it out at:

The doctor asked Ray if Amy was a fighter and Ray said yes and the doctor said That's what we have to go on. I think he meant her ability to regain her health to the way it was before as well. Doesn't sound that pessimistic to me. I do think Amy had a terrific fight ahead of her.
Maybe the writer didn't think it was important or we were supposed to just assume that she was going to be all right. I'm of the belief that if she died, the film would have let us know directly.

We certainly dont get told if she was: a) able to make a full recovery and resume her duties; b) able to recover enough to take a desk job with LAPD; c) forced to retire.
But we can probably safely assume that she lived. The doc asked if she was a fighter. I think the viewer can think "Why, yes. Yes, she is."
