Post-Internal Affairs fate of characters...anyone wonder what happened?

Amy's slow painful, but courageous long road back...

I think after Amy was partially paralyzed by Dennis' bullet, she woke up a few days later, but had only bits and pieces of a memory from the shot and the rush to the hospital. She cannot remember actually falling or Raymond holding her hand. Kind of some fanfiction I'm working on as to what happens to the characters, which I love doing; another one I'm thinking of is Working Girl. She was amazed that she survived.

Her mom and three sisters arrived and were there when she awoke three days later. In my imagination, Amy has two older sisters and one younger one. Her dad died when she was 15, so it's just her mom and sisters. They're so glad to see her survive. Ray edges in, watching them, then waves. Amy slurrily introduces them, although her mind is still foggy and unclear.

Amy realizes that she can't feel her legs or her waist. Her younger sister Marcy stays by her bedside the most; Marcy is an interior designer and really looks up to Amy. Marcy is there when the doctor tells Amy that she might not walk again. Amy is rather numb at first and quietly accepts the news. Amy's own doctor comes and says how sorry she is about Amy's condition.

Amy is horrified to realize that she really is crippled and has great difficulty rolling over, can't get out of bed without help and can't even bathe without help. She breaks down and really, really cries a day later and her mom holds her. Marcy is also there and hands her tissues.

Amy meanwhile also worries about what's happening at the IAD; she's worried about Ray and the others and what Dennis may be doing now. A call comes telling her that Dennis is dead and that Ray has been arrested. Amy, who was just crying over the news of her paralysis, hangs up and keens, Oh, Mom, it's gotten worse... before breaking down again. She's so upset that she can't talk for a long time, so her mom and Marcy just hold her and take turns stroking her hair and wiping her tears.

Raymond's brush with crime and punishment

As for Raymond Avila...sorry, but for killing Peck, he's busted and jailed for a night. His dad, Juan, comes and bails him out and asked him why he did such an idiotic thing and tells him his career could be ruined. Ray is silent, then complains to his parents about Dennis and the affairs and about Kathleen cheating on him. Ray has to go to trial.

Ray's also suspended from his job. His boss is semi-sympathetic, but still thinks Ryamond was wrong to kill Peck. Kathleen supports Raymond some, but is really thinking of divorcing him. They fight and scream more over the phone, then bang them down.

Ray gets back to his home to discover that Kathleen has indeed left and he throws a few things around. He calls the hospital and talks a little to Amy's mom.

Amy is still too upset to talk at first, but later when she does, she asks him shakily Oh, Raymond, why? Ray says he can't believe Amy's crying over this and Amy snaps back a little stronger Of course I'm crying...I thought you'd be...above Peck's mentality. Jesus fckng Christ...

Ray is silent a minute, digesting Amy's words, but can't quite grasp what she means. They make small talk a while, both clearly uncomfortable. Then Amy says she'll try to see what she can do for Ray's trial. B-but, Ray...I can't condone... Amy's voice fills with tears again and nearly breaks. I can't cover for you again...I'm so sorry it's come to this...Amy's voice breaks then. Sure...bye, Ray says with a bit of bitterness and they hang up.

Ray goes to trial two months later and gets off on probation and is able to work again, but is relegated to a desk job and demoted. Some of his co-workers like his killing Peck, but some don't.

Back to Amy's ordeal

Amy goes thru several months of intense therapy and slowly begins to walk again, but it is a very slow, painful process and often leaves her exhausted, discouraged and in tears. She comes back to the IAD, but also has a desk job and needs a cane and leg braces. Her walk is slow and her legs are weak and often spastic.

Amy's problems are far from over...some of the guys give poor Amy a hard time. They basically reduce her to secretarial work and give her their reports to type.

At an office gathering, some of the guys make fun of Amy and tape a picture of a dog with her face on the back of her blouse. She sees it and tries to hide her hurt over it, but it leaks out in her face. Ray doesn't want to get on the guys' bad side, but at the same time sees the pain in Amy's face and is uncomfortable, but doesn't come to her aid.

This is part of the backlash against feminism in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The teasing gets worse and poor Amy finds herself demoted. She crushed and discouraged.

Marcy and Kathleen encourage her to apply to a higher position maybe in San Francisco and she does. She gets the job and once there, she moves back up to sergeant. This position is more female-friendly and her new partner is a woman, so she doesn't feel so uncomfortable. Her hard work finally pays off years later when she's promoted several more times.

She acquires a lover who has a five-year-old daughter and later the two of them marry in SF once gay marriage is legalized.

Meanwhile, she and Ray lose touch and haven't seen each other since. Ray divorced, then remarried a few years later. He stayed in the LAPD, but realized too late that he compromised his integrity for a fast catch and it wasn't worth it.

Meanwhile Kathleen remarried someone with two kids and they later had a son of their own. She's still in her art gallery career and likes it. She often wonders how Amy is and will never forget her, esp. the dignified way Amy carried herself despite Kathleen's outburst and the immature stupidity that went on in the LA IAD.

Penny got post-traumatic stress counseling and started work as a paralegal. She also had trouble with alcohol, but got treatment for it.

So, that's what I think happened to the characters.

shooting Peck was legit. He was in his own home, the guy had a weapon. What's the problem with shooting peck?

reply

Peck was not threatening Raymond or Kathleen. Raymond should have merely shot Peck enough to disable him, then had him arrested.

Buuut, I don't have Raymond stay in jail too long; maybe a couple of weeks or so, tops because some ppl. including the some of the jurors in Raymond's trial feel like you do. Afterward, he gets probation and demoted.

what if Peck had survived ? what could have happened then?

reply

He didn't...they clearly showed Peck dead at the end. I think Raymond was busted and probably served a short prison sentence. And poor Amy...she survived, but needed lots of physical therapy and maybe some emotional therapy also and even today still needs a cane sometimes.

He said what if. It would have been his word's against Peck's. But at this point Peck reputations was trash.

And even if the Peck wasn't threatening him, he could easily say he was. There were no witnesses (assuming his wife doesn't testify against him :) ).

reply

In which case, she might testify against Raymond since she was getting sick of Raymond's stupidity. There's a continuation of this film at:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2281074/1/

If you want to go check it out. There are three chapters up so far; it's entitled External Repercussions and it continues onward on Raymond's, Kathleen's, and Amy's lives straight from the film right after Amy is shot and Raymond kills Peck.

If someone breaks into your home with a loaded gun and a knife and holds it on your wife you can shoot until you have no bullets left and there is also no jury that would convict Ray of anything after hearing all the evidence.

Kathleen loved her husband (even with their problems) and would NOT have testified against Ray. She said if she were sleeping with someone else she would'nt be with him. Oh and by the way he did save her life, I would'nt send the person that saved my life to jail.

reply

Nope, Peck was NOT holding a gun to Ray's wife at all; he was merely sleeping with her. Sleazy thing to do for sure, but Raymond's gonna have a tough time convincing the jury that he had a valid excuse for shooting Peck to death. Many juries WOULD convict Raymond.

Even if Peck HAD been holding a gun to Kathleen, many juries might not have aquitted Raymond; they'd figure he should have shot Peck enough to disable Peck, but not kill him.

Sorry, Raymond really didn't save anyone's life; he was mostly acting out of egotistical "love" for "his" wife (how dare that slimehead touch MY wife) and a desire for revenge against Peck, not out of a selfless, heroic deed.

So, another piece of the anti-hero Raymond.

In the last scenes of the movie Kathleen comes home alone, turns on a light, turns on the TV, starts the shower, then goes to the bedroom to get undressed only to find blood on her bed when she sits on it, then Peck grabs her from behind as she is sitting on the bed. When Peck grabs her he puts his hand over her mouth with his right hand and in his left is a gun, pretty sure that is a threat.

During the final fight scene Peck tells Avilla something like "Your so easy Raymond, I push the buttons and you react", basicly telling us he broke into their home to steal the panties(never slept with Kathleen) and again broke into the home to kill and/or rape Kathleen to get back at Raymond for ruing his little world.

Raymond would get an accomodation for bring down a very crooked cop which crimes include murder, manipulation of a union, consorting with known fellons, etc... So Raymond is indeed the hero.

In my eyes Raymond retires from the LAPD to go to work with his wife in the art business.
Poor Amy dies.
Penny spills the beans.
Rudy goes back to prison.
All or most on the cops in Pecks scam get busted.

People keep asking if Kathleen slept with Peck, well she did'nt. Kathleen met Peck, they talked a little he gave her his card, she then went shopping and Peck went and stole the panties from their home then confronted Raymond in the elevator.

reply

Naap, Raymond gets a short prison term. And true, maybe he does get a very light sentence, but he's not the hero of the film. Amy is.

Awww, that'd be awful if poor Amy died...her sisters and mom would miss her. The rabbi would have had to say some quick Talmud prayers over her if she'd died.

And if Amy had died, maybe she would have been honored in some special way for her heroism.

Wallace identified Peck as the shooter. The ambulance guys were witnesses.

Very likely, Peck will also be proved to be behind all the deaths in the Acora family.

He then broke into Avilla's house, and threatened his wife. After Avilla arrested him and took his gun off him, Peck came at him with a knife. Despite being shot in the leg, Peck kept coming.

There isnt the slightest doubt that lethal force was justified. And it wouldnt be in anyone's interests to try to argue it wasnt a good kill. The LAPD would take a big PR hit when the extent of Peck's dirtiness is revealed. But they would surely give Avilla a medal and make a big play of how they always clean up after themselves. They dont want to make a bad situation worse by alleging that even IA is full of psychos.

Raymond acted on self defense. Nothing will happen to him. He will be the heroe.

Amy will recover from the bullet wound and they will continue as partners.

Penny will be imprisoned for her role in Dennis´ corrution schemes.

Dennis´wife will have immunity for the things she told to Raymond and Amy, which were essential to stop Dennis.

Rudy will be imorisoned and the other cops will be disciplined for their relationship with Rudy and Dennis.

reply

Naaa, I don't think Ray will get any high praises. I think he'll serve a short suspension, if not a short prison term.

reply

for the record peck wasn't sleeping with Raymond's wife. That's the whole point of that particular strand.

i think the whole thing gets covered up, couldn't afford a trial as publicity would be terrible. The thing gets swept under the carpet, with raymond getting a promotion even.

Amy survives, though they never partner each other again.

reply

Yuck, I hope Ray wasn't promoted. He really was no hero at all. But it is possible that it might have gotten "swept under the carpet."

reply

My hero ray saved the day!

Judging from your posts/threads, you're prolly cringing 5 years later :P
