Was this intended to be a Christmas movie

It’s a Christmas classic now, but was this movie advertised as a holiday film when it first came out or just a family movie that happens to be set at Christmas time.

reply

It did come out around Christmas time, and the tagline was "A holiday comedy... without the family." so yeah they probably figured this would be a Christmas movie.

reply

No. I never thought of it that way till the last few years when they started showing the movie a dozen times a day on multiple cable channels all December long. It's a good Christmas movie though. I think it's fun, has a festive feel, and a solid schmaltzy ending. And of course is set over Christmas. It's as much a Christmas movie as Die Hard is.

reply

To answer your question yes. That was how it made and sold to the audience. I remember going to theaters to see it when it came out and couldn't see it for weeks due to being sold out everywhere.

reply

yes.

reply

Yes it was because it does take place during the Holiday season.

reply
