How old were the parents supposed to be?

I always assumed the parents were supposed to be in their late 30's/early 40's although John Heard was around 44 while filming and Catherine O'Hara was only around 36 while filming of this movie.

Considering Buzz's age, they're at least 40 most likely.

Early 40's would be my guess.
