Anyone read the original 2000 AD short comic strip?

Is the ending the same as in this adaption?

I've read it...but i can't remember the ending of this movie!!!

I was trying to explain this to a friend, and I wasn't sure if i'd read it in an 2000AD or JD annual or one of the comics..

pretty good. but of all the source material 2000ad has and this is what they picked...oh well.
