I'd also add the "crackpot" Exorcist II on the list along with Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 but I guess I could make my own list.

I'd say this film would have gotten a fairer hearing if it were the first sequel to The Exorcist (i.e. if EII: the Heretic were never made) and if it were made about a decade earlier, when it would have seemed timely.

It is explained in the movie that it took 15 years to resuscitate Damien's Karras's brain... so I guess that's a fair explanation, but I agree ultimately it would have gone over better sooner.
