i laughed when The Gemini Killer (Brad Dourif) said "This Is Child's Play"
kind of funny for those who know that two years earlier Brad Dourif played a killer who dies and possesses a "Chuckie" doll who murders. The name of the movie of course was "Child's Play" LMAO

The movie has another funny meta-reference. The University President tells Father Dyer that The Fly is his favorite film. The actor playing the University President, Lee Richardson, co-starred in the Fly sequel.

i wonder if they do that just to advertise other films they are in, or is it just a remarkable coincidence?

Yes, because actors really have a say in what dialogue is in the script and whether or not they get to use their dialogue time to reference other movies they've starred in.
