The legal action by Blatty and Fredkin was regarding unpaid revenues from the 2001 re-release of The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen.
So Warner does have motive to be not nice to Blatty...except that it was Morgan Creek Productions who made Exorcist III, not Warner. And Warner is only the recent distributor of Exorcist III; it was originally 20th Century Fox.
So unless I've got this ownership business wrong, I don't see how Warner's influence could be seeing to it that the cans of lost Legion footage will never to be found in the Morgan Creek vaults. You might try looking closer to home, ie. Morgan Creek's VP and Senior Executives playing politics. After all, the Exorcist movie series is one that Morgan Creek botched with their creative interference not once but twice: Exorcist Legion, then Exorcist Dominion/The Beginning. Such foolishness would no doubt be embarrassing to own up to, which in a way is what they would be doing if they allowed restoration and release of Blatty's directors cut of Legion. Assuming they genuinely know where it is, that is.
