(For what it's worth, I don't care. Meyers alienated folks around here by dropping by to make sarcastic comments about "misinformed" posts concerning Legion. But instead of "correcting" the "misinformed" posts, Meyers refused to supply the supposedly correct information. So he was just dropping by, Godlike, to disrespect posters who otherwise would have been interested in buying his book. Apparently, he thought this withholding of "precious" information, only known to Meyers alone, would whet our appetite for the book, by keeping the "correct" information locked up in the book.

But sadly, Meyers' narcissism and self-admiration have combined to re-create him in a very obnoxious form. I won't buy his book and I would never recommend it, based solely on Meyers' boorish behavior alone.)

Wow. I wasn't aware I'd made such an impact!

I'm sorry you feel this way, Bastach. I assure you it was not my intent to polarize or alienate.

For the original poster: the delay has been sue to new information surfacing that's necessitated examination and investigation. It will all be worth it, I assure you.

Will it be?

I don't at all mind waiting if it means we may see the original cut of Legion surface in the making.

Take your time, EkMyers. Just find us that footage! ;-

I wonder if Morgan Creek would let fans rummage through for free.

reply

You mean, to find the lost footage..?

What else would I go to Morgan Creek for? They don't have much else, maybe Skin Deep.

I believe this may be a failure to read between the lines on one's part then.

I'm sure Warner Bros. put Morgan Creek up to the whole claim that the footage was lost. They can be a ruthless bunch. They have given many people a hard time over the decades (Directors, Actors, Musicians, you name it).

Not only did they not see eye-to-eye with Blatty back in 1990, but they also had a pending lawsuit against them filed by both Blatty and Friedkin some years ago, I believe. I don't think a conglomerate cooperates in business deals (organizing a Director's Cut) with someone while there are current legal quarrels with that particular someone going on in court.

My guess is the footage was relocated to someplace where it cannot be found, until of course they are ready for it to be found.

Sounds about right. I mean we are talking about 1990 here, not asking about something that was made on the cheap 30-40 yrs ago.

Just sayin'...

That Warner Bros. story is very true. As an audience we view films to be this art form, but they're looking at things from a business point of view, with little focus on the art, especially in this economy, though compared to other industries the film industry is doing pretty well.

reply

All the more reason to give us what we want then.

If it is business, as you say, they would do well to release a special edition of The Exorcist III someday, similar to the Superman II: The Donner Cut release, as well as the Payback: Straight Up release.

Another good example would be the Dominion film and its "Beginning" counterpart.

All of these movies have two versions of themselves. Why not just give The Exorcist III similar treatment? Release the legendary Legion film under its original title alongside The Exorcist III as a double feature of sorts. Who knows... EkMyers's efforts may prove lucrative for the purposes of a director's cut for the movie. Hopefully his book will get their attention.

Its around. Nothing gets thrown away. Its on a shelf next to the outtakes of "Major League" The outtakes on the can for this film read (or did at 1 time"

I wouldn't mind having a job around all those work prints.

Anyhow, why exactly did Blatty and Friedkin file a lawsuit against WB again? Whatever came of that? I just want to see the damn movie in its original form; grrr...

See here:

The legal action by Blatty and Fredkin was regarding unpaid revenues from the 2001 re-release of The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen.

So Warner does have motive to be not nice to Blatty...except that it was Morgan Creek Productions who made Exorcist III, not Warner. And Warner is only the recent distributor of Exorcist III; it was originally 20th Century Fox.

So unless I've got this ownership business wrong, I don't see how Warner's influence could be seeing to it that the cans of lost Legion footage will never to be found in the Morgan Creek vaults. You might try looking closer to home, ie. Morgan Creek's VP and Senior Executives playing politics. After all, the Exorcist movie series is one that Morgan Creek botched with their creative interference not once but twice: Exorcist Legion, then Exorcist Dominion/The Beginning. Such foolishness would no doubt be embarrassing to own up to, which in a way is what they would be doing if they allowed restoration and release of Blatty's directors cut of Legion. Assuming they genuinely know where it is, that is.
