My blu-ray came today.

I have watched the director's cut. It's interesting. Anybody else's come?

Did you like the director's cut? How different was it to the theatrical version?

reply

Yes, please, OP: can you please give us some idea of the director's cut features and elements that differentiate it from the theatrical release - it would be great to find out about some of that stuff...

Mine came Thursday. Now I am not one to follow this series closely, having only recently began exploring it. With that said, I loved The Exorcist III. The director's cut is really cool to see and I am pleased to have a chance to own it, but honestly, I think as of right now, I enjoy the theatrical more. Keep in mind, this set was the first time I had ever seen the theatrical cut as well. I can understand why long time fans may enjoy the new cut more. It adds some interesting things along the way, but there is no Father Morning and none of the exorcism stuff from the theatrical cut in it. I think fans already know how the DC ends. There is no Jason Miller footage in it at all. It's all Brad Dourif, which is cool! The video footage is still video footage but it has been cleaned up with no shaking or interfering lines. This is what Nightbreed was going to be like until they found the actual film footage to use at the last minute for that DC.

I liked both versions quite a bit, but I just think the theatrical cut is a bit more satisfying. I am willing to bet that I am in the minority on that, though.  Either way, this film has wonderful atmosphere and a great creeping buildup of the evil at work. I wish Dominion could have had more of that. I feel that it never quite gets off the ground in that regard.

Sounds like a great watch either way! Thanks for the feedback!

What he said basically. I never liked the exorcism in the theatrical cut but the ending of the director's cut is kind of a whimper and could have used Jason Miller a bit

crsuhar, it's good to hear your input - thanks.

You are more than welcome, bastasch8647. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the new cut, seeing that you are a huge fan of these movies and very knowledgeable about them. Like I said, my opinion is that of a newbie. You may very well like the Director's Cut better! I very much enjoyed both versions. Anyhow, I am just now exploring these movies. I think a friend showed me some of The Exorcist III way back when it first came to VHS, but I just didn't care back then and did not pay much attention to it at all. My loss! Better late than never, though.

I, too, have a sense of loss in the sense that I didn't get up off my lazy behind and to out to see Ex III in the theater! I've never forgiven myself for that gaffe.

Glad to get that warning ahead of time.

Thanks.

no Father Morning or Jason Miller would be a major let down.

Are you a fan of this movie, kurt-2000?? I ask because even if you don't like the DC as much, it is still quite interesting to see it. When the DC went off, I felt like "that's it?" I just wanted it to have a bit more to the ending. If felt a tad incomplete. I can understand why the studio wanted to add something bigger for the finale, though I do agree with some people that maybe it was a bit too much! 

I am always interested in alternate cuts of movies, especially things like this that were lost to time and then the footage is found all of these years later. If anything, there are a lot of great extras on the set!

Indeed,,the director's cut doesn't have a strong conclusion but the footage of Brad Dourif that was replaced with footage of Jason Miller's, features a marvelous and powerful, performance. Interestingly, Dourif would, play a somewhat similar role in an episode of "The X-Files".
