Why didn't the neighbors react to Jim beating up Edward after he saves Kevin from getting run over?

It's like they weren't okay with Edward rescuing Kevin but they were okay with Jim beating the crap out of him, plus what was Jim thinking when he was beating Edward up?

The neighbors were shown to be ditzy idiots and had their own flaws in that they thought they were right. They assumed Edward was a monster without considering the circumstances or questioning him on why he was angry. They were more likely to trust Jim than Edward or Kim.
