One part I didn't get... (minor)

When the guy is thrown out the window and lands on the car, and Darkman is disguised as him and sitting just a few feet away on the bench... why'd the woman scream when she saw him sitting there?

Is it that it was traumatic and made her irrational? Hadn't she ever heard of identical twins before? Just seemed like an odd reaction...

But, be it a traumatic event it might be understandable. Anyone got their two-cents?

I think anyone would have been shocked at that sight, though perhaps they wouldn't have reacted quite as strongly as she did. That said, I can understand her panic. I'm sure she knows what identical twins are, but what are the odds of seeing one fall to his death from a building with the other one sitting so close nearby? Also, if I recall the two men were dressed in identical clothing (as part of Darkman's disguise), this would certainly enhance the shocking affect on the woman.

It's been years since I've seen this, so I could be wrong about both men being dressed in identical clothing.

Have to agree with sfmar.

I don't think she was reacting to the face smoking/bubbling

What I had a hard time with was Peyton finding the exact matches of clothing of the men he's impersonating. That and how could Durant survive that crash with no visible scars from third degree burns. Does Peyton shower regularly? If not he's gotta stink. How does he keep those burns from getting infected?

Mutant? That was never implied in the movie. The doctor explained that they cut his nerves and that made the rest of his systems just work a little bit harder to compensate.

I always just figure she's screaming because of his face starting to change that very moment.

reply

Yeah I just think, the initial shock, coupled with the fact that his face starts "melting" causes the scream

reply

It was also because of his (lack of) reaction. If my twin fell right next to me I'd freak out and call his name, but he just sat there like nothing happened, that would freak me out more than anything.

reply

I agree with Calimie. That's what I thought the first time I saw it.
Someone falls to his horrible death, then the woman realizes he looks like
the guy next to her, who doesnt looked terribly upset that his twin just
feel to his death a few feet from him, and then his face starts to bubble
because the mask was dissolving. A really great scene, although, realistically,
it must have been a scarring experience for the woman.

What I didn't understand is why more people didn't freak out or respond to the man's death; he really crashed into that car, and people around it barely noticed until the woman began screaming bloody murder! LOL

reply

Maybe the woman never saw identical twins in her life. I haven't.
