Is this the most "Comic Book" movie ever made?

Right now, I'm thinking it is, and nothing really comes that close.

It was the most like reading a comic (of that era) in feel, pace, style, camera work, and plot I've seen.

I can understand why Raimi was given Spider-man.

That first crappy hulk movie by Ang Lee. Li?

Dick Tracy is a moving comic all the way ...

reply

Wow, I forgot about Dick Tracey! I haven't seen that since it was in theaters and I was a teen.

I'll have to re-watch it, thanks.

Cough cough.... eehhmm.... Sin City?? Cough cough

I was coming on here to say Dick Tracy, too. I'd even go with Tracy over Sin City. Tracy has more of the feel of a comic book. Sin City's too self-aware (in my opinion) and is as much a parody of comics as it is a comic book movie.

reply

Yeah, I don't consider Sin City very "comic book" at all.

It was part of a much later movement (the "graphic novel"), and really doesn't reflect the storytelling of the format before the very late 1990's. Plus, it is an odd atmosphere that doesn't match much beyond itself.

reply

I think Sin City replicated the Sin City book accurately, but from what little Sin City I've read, it's just not as "classic comic book" in its essence as it is "ultraviolent, hard-R parody/homage to pulp fiction magazines".

Dr. Giggles
The Dentist
Batman 89'
Dead Alive
Hardware

I don't really find any of those as "comic book" as this, or Dick Tracey.

To my mind, they are still the top two.

I agree DM, and DT, are top two, but check those out if you like DM

Robocop
Creepshow 1 & 2
Dracula (Bram Stoker's)
Twilight Zone the movie
The Crow
