the bonfire vs. crash

don't you think this movie deals with the same subjects as the new 'crash', but with more humour and wit?

reply

I know Bonfire dealt a liitle with racism, etc. I feel it was more about greed and everyone looking out for themselves. While Crash was almost 100% about race relations in America today.

reply

I think Bonfire of Vanities has in fact very little to do with racism. it is about politics, money and power. Crash is the best movie I've seen in the past years. Not One of the best: THE BEST!
Now THAT IS a movie about racism!!! Not just the story itself, but the way the Director let's you think: aaah! I know what's going to happen!! and what happens in fact is far from what you have thought! :)

reply

yes i agree the comparison was stupid, i don't know what i was thinking... but i don't think crash was a very good film.

reply

The comarison's not stupid man...both of them deal somewhat in racial tensions, Crash just much more so than Bonfire. And I agree with you: when dealing in subjects that are also in Crash, this movie (and espeically the novel) does it with much more humor and wit.

They're gonna give daddy the Rainman suite.

that is quite possibly the most ridiculous comparison known to date. if your trying to compare other films to crash the only movie that comes close is grand canyon, which crash is a complete rip off of. i hope people who enjoyed crash can look into grand canyon and acknowledge the... shall i say similarities.

reply

That is just about as bad of comparison as trying to find the similariries in the newer "Crash" vs. "Crash" by Cronenberg based on the J.G. Ballard book.

"Let's put it this way - I haven't seen Crash yet, but I can gaurantee that it is much better than bonfire..."

View free movie reviews. Why get bogged down in things like details? So much more opportunity for criticism. lol

"No idea what the heck you are talking about...I was just pointing out that as an adaptation of the novel, the movie "Bonfire of the Vanities" wasn't very good."

No,you were trying to point that out. What you did was sound like a pompous blowhard.

The Bonfire of the Vanities OWNS Crash (2005). Unlike the latter film, it has the delicious audacity to put its tongue in its cheek (despite lacking the bite of the novel, which I haven't read), while at the same time conveying conveying a message of anti-reverse discrimination which is absolutely correct.

And news flash: Paul Haggis has NOTHING on De Palma as a filmmaker. Haggis is uninteresting and unimaginative; De Palma shoots for long takes, swopping crane shots and split screens.

It may have seemed obvious in 2005 to argue that Crash was the better film, but no longer.

What I don't understand is how we're going to stay alive this winter.
