It would have been better if they had flipped roles

Spader would have been better as the bad guy. At the time he clearly had much more talent. Lowe was not much more than a pretty boy who could read lines at this time of his career.

I agree about switching roles. Tho I give Lowe more credit that you do.

Stupid comment. Yes, maybe Lowe play the good guy better, I’ll give you that, but Spader can play both roles beautifully. Spader is a phenomenal actor

I think the idea was to cast them where they weren't expected. At the time, Spader was typically the bad boy and Lowe was always the good guy.

Spader can play evil without breaking a sweat. Nobody expected him to play the victim as he does here and he does it well.
