It's possible this movie influenced Chuck Palahniuk as he was writing Fight Club as the relationship between the two main characters. The physically perfect and limitlessly capable brad pitt/Robe lowe lead the meek Ed Norton/James Spader down a dark path where the latter are shaped into more capable and ruthless people.
