Why this line?

When Marty's in 1955 at the Drive-In, ready to head back to 1885, he tells doc, "It's going to be a hell of a walk back to Hill Valley..." which would have made sense if they had driven the DeLorean there, and was my original thought. BUT I noticed that Doc's car is there...with a trailer that they brought the DeLorean on. Why the heck would Doc have to walk? Am I missing something, or is this some very simple mistake they made? I understand errors with discrepencies in the timelines, but don't get how this one got by.

The way I've always interpreted that line, is Marty clearly meant that HE was gonna have to walk all the way back to Hill Valley once he got to 1885. He wasn't going to drive the DeLorean back to town for obvious reasons, and Doc even states that taking the car anywhere near a populated area would be too risky. So, the plan was to have Marty transported to an open space area where he could arrive safely and unnoticed. And then of course he was going to make his way back by walking. What confirms this, is right before Marty leaves Doc mentions "a small cave over there which will be a perfect place to hide the time vehicle".

Great Scott! You're right. Now I feel stupid. I think maybe it was the delivery of the line that made me assume Marty was talking about Doc.
