Why does Maggie look like Lorraine?

Incest?

Cos they are played by the same actress.

The writers either overlooked the fact that Maggie and Seamus should not both look like someone from before , or didn't bother to come up with a better idea to give Leah a role and figured nobody would notice or care. If only they had a time machine , someone could have warned them people would one day notice lol

congrats. Someone wrote that already and I´m sure the OP wasn´t aware of that...

reply

LOL man.

Like a repeated comment is so much worse for not being necessary (obvious to everyone already), than is one comment (yours).

Congrats to you as well.

Congrats to you too for almost writing a coherent sentence...

For those that don't know the full story, Crispin Glover (George McFly) was supposed to reprise his role in the sequels but he wanted more money so he was not rehired. Had he been, I'm sure he would have been playing Seamus McFly, but since he wasn't it kind of makes sense to at least have MJF play him to maintain the "family resemblance" angle.

The way I see it Lea Thompson HAD to play Maggie to keep in line with the running joke of Marty waking up to his mother tending to him.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.

That's not even the full story. He was offered something like $150,000 to return where Lea was getting around $650,000 and Tom like 325,000. His agent thought it was an unfair amount, but then they lowered that initial offer by $25,000!

In that case, if I was running Universal at the time, I would have forced Bob Gale to fork over the proper amount and, if he refused, I would threatened to have him booted off the films and blacklisted.

Except it was the big-wigs at Universal that we're penny pinching and not Bob Gale directly.
In fact if you listen to the commentary at the start if BttF II, Bob mentions there were salary disputes for other people too...Bob included.

Those disputes were well warranted as part 2 and part 3 were horrible in comparison to the original film. If their quality was to go down, then as should their pay...

Would you have preferred Lea Thompson to have had a unibrow and cornrows?

I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least its an ethos.

reply

Even if Crispin was in it , it would have been a mistake to have Lea play a Mcfly . Attracted to similar woman doesn't work if you previously establish that the same actor playing a part means they're actually related to someone. They should have had Leah been a Baines, and either given Seamus' dialogue to her, or had Seamus be like the bartender. We wouldn't have expected Maggie and Seamus to be together, but we'd know that some 80 years later their great grandkids would.

I think the poster that pointed out it was for the purposes of him waking up and saying 'you're my, you're my...' is correct. A contrivance for sure but it's kind of funny.

reply

Meh. It seems silly to make Lea play a McFly ancestor only to make that joke...again.

reply

That's kind of the nature of the series though, quite a few gags are repeated. 'Mcfly I thought I told you never to come in here' 'Did you finish my homework/reports', the hover/skateboard race, the manure etc. If they were going to repeat this one it only made sense to cast Lea or simply not do it at all.

There's a moral to this story Del Boy but for the life of me I can't find it!

I already relied to a post like this. Shortened version. In the 19th century it was common for cousins to marry. We in this era may find that a bit nasty, but if we were around in the 19th century odds are our views would be different. Jesse James if not mistaken married his cousin. Sundance Kid his wife (or girlfriend) Etta Place was thought to be his cousin since Kid's mothers maiden name was Place. However virtually nothing is known about Etta so her last name of Place may not have been her real last name.

Now I'm NOT saying that was the case here as others pointed out reasons. But 19tj century it was common to marry your cousin.
