No offense but you're not getting it, although I suspect that is because you're young and simply don't know any better. The hairstyles, clothes, etc. are all products of the 1980s so of course it will look funky compared to today's fashions, however, making fun of it and saying how cheesy it is is like saying the Romans were idiots for wearing togas. Different periods go through different styles so you have to understand the times in order to appreciate the fashion sense, mannerisms and traditions.
This movie's a taut thriller with a plot that's inspired by actual events, these type of doctors really do exist as does black market organ harvesting, so that part's not laughable at all, it's pretty damn scary and this movie exemplifies the horrid nature of such brutal crimes against humanity. People who laugh at this are blissfully unaware of the reality behind it all. It's a well told tale and prefaced with the proper context and plausibility it takes on a whole new meaning.
The idea that people find this film funny is slightly more frightening than the very theme it dissects, which I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by given the mentality of today's usually ignorant youth.

Haha, wow I can't believe you lectured me about this. I'm 25 and I do get it. Just because of the reality behind it (and yes, I'm aware of the reality) and the era it was created, doesn't mean us young people won't find it funny. So be it. Who really cares? The reality behind it sucks -of course, and in analyzing the film, yes, it's easy to drawn real life scenarios from it. Honestly though, if you were serious with that last response, you need to chill out.
I wore hilarious clothing in the 80's and 90's. I laugh hysterically when I look back.
People can find humor in anything. I know I can. Call it dark or whatever -to dismiss us all as "ignorant" as if all we see in it is humor, is just so ignorant.

True, however, sometimes people find things funny simply because they don't know any better, they lack the proper context and/or knowledge, now it wasn't clear from your initial post if that was the case although it seemed like it and given most of today's youth it was a likely scenario.
Also, I said "usual", not "unusual", big difference. Talk to any younger people today and you'll quickly see that the average is far more ignorant of world events than prior generations, which isn't surprising when so many are raised on MTV and video games rather than books and more educational mediums.
Anyway, no offense intended, I just find it ironic when a film is chastised for being a product of its times.

Ahh, you assumed I was a young kind that didn't know any better! In all seriousness, I'm really not offended -but thanks. My original message wasn't chastising the film (although I can see how you would think that) -anything can have a deeper, broader meaning -symbolic or what not. That is of course, if one is willing to look that deep into it.
Most of all my favorite films were either made in the 70's or 80's by the way.
I agree with you when you say most kids are raised by their television sets. It's interesting to see what television and the media does to people. Sad at the same time. Brainwashing. Fear and Consumption.
Believe it or not haha, I took my television out of my living room and replaced the space with 2 book shelves. I love to read. TV is hypnotic, I can't stand it.
Seems like we have 2 things in common -we both like the ambulance, and we both are into books.

Well that changes the situation a great deal, I see what you mean:)
Most of my favorite films are from the 80s so I get a little defensive when I see people mock films from that time. Technically this film is from 1990 but it was filmed in 1989 and it does have the trademark 80s style. Granted there are many silly fashions from that era, don't get me wrong, but I just get annoyed when young people don't get the cultural norms of that period and judge it accordingly.
I hear what you're saying regarding TV, it probably would be best to do the same thing you have, but I guess I'm just too big of a fan of films and TV to get rid of it. I still make time for books though, it's just important to maintain a balance between the two mediums, moderation is always key.

Ok, so it is a thriller/horror flick? Must be 15 years since I watched it, and I remember it as a thriller with Roberts constantly on the run but, it is listed as a action/comedy/horror/romance/thriller. lol?

Don't mean to bump this thread, but having watched Maniac Cop last night and its special features (which mentioned this film) I saw your comments and agree with you completely; some douche-nozzles take things way too seriously and yet defend their point-of-view that somehow tries to vindicate themselves from causing offence!
