Still seems odd to me,

He seemed like an alcoholic. Not sure if that had more to do with Sam Waterston, but it was annoying at times.

I thought he ws very good. He and "Lenny" were the two most important characters in the long history of the show.

Sam Waterston was born for that role; beyond excellen! No idea what the other poster means by "seems like an alcoholic". Quite the opposite to me; maybe he's watching a different show than I am.
Anyway I'm just watching S7 E 5 now "Corruption", where Jack goes after a corrupt cop. I love to see dirty cops going to prison. Unfortunately it's rare in real life.
