The Flash's character

OK, I've never seen this show so I don't know a lot about it. I mean, I know the story of The Flash from the comics but I have a question about the show itself. In the show The Flash is Barry Allen. How much of the personality, characters, villians, are from the Barry Allen era of comics and how much of it is other versions of the Flash mixed in? I hope everyone understands what I'm trying to ask.

Most of it is taken from Barry Allen's character of the comics, however they do mix in a little of Wally West as well. Interestingly, they pull a similar move for Flash in the animated Justice League series, but in an opposite way (in that the character is Wally West with some slight traights of Barry Allen incorporated).

What part of Wally West's life is referenced?

reply

Well, for one the fact that Barry needs to eat alot of food to supplement his high-powered metabolism (Wally has been shown doing this in the comics and his animated incarnation but Barry never really had it in the comics, he would just wear his body out the faster he went).
On another, he's a little more jokey at times than Allen in the comics, who was very serious about his super-hero life, in this regard he mirrors Wally West who is very serious when the situation calls for it, but can tend to throw one or two sarcastic comments around.

His relationship with Iris in the series is also slightly reminiscent of Linda Park.

Great, thanks for the info, Clifford.

Not a problem.
On a little side-note, I really like how they adapted Flash's outfit exactly into live-action without making it look too corny.
Kinda like how they managed it with Spider-Man in a way.

reply

Yea, I've noticed that from pics I've seen.

Additionally, Barry is a bachelor on the show, much like Wally in the early days. He also is being researched by Tina McGee at STAR Labs, like in the Wally West era. He's more like Barry than Wally....but there's definitely some Wally in there.

Iris was from Barry. Tina was from Wally, and his brother was named 'Jay', after the Golden Age Flash--Jay Garrick.
